What is Community
The church as a whole is a community; caring for one another is foundational to any thriving community. As Christians, we are called to not only care for one another, but to also love one another with a holy, selfless love. The great commandment calls us to love God with all of our being and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Community Groups are a perfect place for us to live out the great commandment by loving each other and loving the lost around us. (Mark 12:30-31)
Refuge in Community
A Refuge Community Group is a place to practically love one another in the body of Christ by helping, encouraging, and praying for each other through struggles and difficulties. We need to hold each other accountable as iron sharpening iron. Community Groups also involve discussing and meditating on doctrine together and remembering Jesus’ tremendous sacrifice through communion. (Acts 2:42, John 13:35)
Refuge in the Community
When Jesus was asked to expound on the great commandment, he told the story of a Samaritan man caring for a wounded stranger. The Samaritan showed love to the wounded stranger by pouring his personal resources and time into the man in need. There are many people in Santa Rosa who are spiritually in need, but there are plenty of social needs to be addressed as well. In the great commission, Jesus commands us to go into all the world and make disciples. Refuge Community Groups are not only to minster to people within the church, but also to look for ways to share the Gospel with the community around us. (Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 10)

What if I don’t know anyone in my Community Group?
Soon you will. Meeting and becoming friends with people you don’t normally spend time with is one of the great blessings of being a Christian. We develop well with people who are different than us because we have Christ in common.
